You Are the Girl for the Job: Daring to Believe the God Who Calls You
You believe (or want to believe) God has called you and given you purpose, but where do you start? How do you get from feeling stuck to making a move? If this sounds familiar, bestselling author Jess Connolly has a message for you: You Are the Girl for the Job.
But this is not simply a peppy catchphrase. This is the straight-up truth God has proclaimed over your life from the beginning, and it's not dependent on what you can do or achieve but based on His power, capacity, and character.
It has taken one million, maybe one zillion (who knows?!), slight moves of His hand to place you in this exact moment. So forget about fear and second-guessing your gifts, because God has meticulously prepared you to be an ambassador for the Kingdom right where you are, here and now. Life is too short to get stuck in a holding pattern of shame, self-doubt, and comparison. So let this book be your very good news: you don't have to wait for permission when you've already been commissioned.
With passion and heart-pumping hope, Jess shows that being the girl for the job doesn't depend on your capacity. Rather, it has everything to do with God's capacity and our willingness. It has everything to do with believing we are who God says we are, and quieting any inferior word spoken against us. Are you ready?
Let this book be your jumpstart into confident, purposed living, as Jess walks you through the six steps she has used to coach and encourage women for years: set your focus, take stock of the story that has shaped you, face your fear, catch the vision, make a plan, and finally, make your move--all in the bold belief that God has called you to every step of the journey.

Girl for the job, but not every job is for you
I read a lot of books throughout the year. Over time most books become just distant memories. Not so here. You Are the Girl for the Job really resonated with me. Not just the social media-esque quotes but the entirety of what this book is about. We want to matter in this life; sometimes we get stuck on trying to do a little bit of everything in hopes of mattering and making a difference. But Jess reminds us that while we are the girl for the job, we are not the girl for every job. We are here for a reason and we have a purpose. She also reminds us that our purposes can change. Just because we are talented/gifted in one area doesn't mean we are stuck doing that one thing for our entire life. Jess gives practical advice and brings everything back to the Word of God. It's not sugar-coated and it's not bitter tasting. She speaks from a place that has been there and still struggles. She doesn't have all the answers but she does point her readers back to the one place where the answers can be found: in Jesus. We are the girls for the jobs because of Jesus and because He graced us with gifts and talents to glorify Him and give us an abundant life. I highly recommend this for all women (and teen girls too). You will be blessed.
encouraged, inspired, and spurred on!
I have been so thrilled to read YATGFTJ. There were so many moments where I felt like Jess was speaking right to me. She brings biblical truth and best friend-mom-big sister-mentor-boss babe style to encourage you to RUN toward Jesus! Instead of feeling like you have to do it all or be the best or compete, she preaches that we should take ourselves OUT of the running and rely on His strength. It's powerful stuff, guys. If you have struggled with not feeling good enough, over capacity, or imposter syndrome, I especially encourage you to read this book!
We need this book right now!
I struggle to believe that God can use me in any capacity because I’m always hung up on what I lack. And all these self-help books today? They don’t help. They hype up my pride but don’t speak truth into my identity in Christ and His capacity to do a work in me and through me because He is GOD & He is ABLE. In this book Jess pulls no punches in speaking truth about how we are women after God’s heart (not our own) & how He equips us in our calling to step up to the plate and be confident that we, the broken daughters of God, can be USED for His Kingdom & His glory wherever He has called us. If you’re tired of the world’s POV on this topic of tackling the world but you want to be a woman with a fire in her belly living life for God in abundance THIS is your book.
A Rare Book That Inspires All Ages
You are the Girl for the Job is a rare book that inspires all ages, no matter what their challenge or adversity to step into the place God has called them. Jess Connolly is transparent, inspirational, Biblical and truly the “girl for the job” as she rallies readers to trust God and go for it. I can’t remember the last time I was completely taken in so early. Her SoulCycle story still resonates with me. I plan to go back through it again because I want to savor it, take it all in, and highlight. I expect to highlight a lot. If you doubt your place in the world, as God’s daughter, or are looking for a real voice that can rally a transformation, You are the Girl for the Job is the book, and Jess Connolly is an author you’ll be hearing a lot more of. I highly, highly recommend this book. I received You Are the Girl for the Job from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated.
A timely call to the women of all generations
From start to finish, this book was packed with Scripture teaching, empathy, encouragement, and calling us up as sisters in Christ - equipped, already enough and never too much. Jess Connolly invites you into large parts of her testimony and uses her giftings in teaching the Word of God to call women out of fear and hiding, and into the abundant, equipped life God has for His daughters. What resonated with me the most was the chapter(s) on fear. It is such a stronghold of unbelief and the way Jess packs SO many bright truths straight from the Word with such conviction made me think long after the book was through. This book not only provides a call to Biblical literacy in laying hold of our inheritance and standing as daughters of God, but a bolstering balm of truth to the reader, wherever she may find herself, so that she can taste and see that the Lord is good - and that He made her, the girl for the job.
Need an encouraging read to remind you that you are exactly where God wants you?
I don't remember where I first heard about Jess Connolly or this book but I'm glad I did. Before chapter one ever begins you read, "It's time we quit arguing with God about our inadequacy and start relying on His capacity." This book does an excellent job of combining the Bible with practical steps and encouraging stories (mostly from Connolly herself) that we are the girl for the job and God put us where we are for a reason. She reminds us in a gentle way that our calling depends more on His abundance and His capacity than our own. Our society tries to force us into a burn-it-at-both ends culture and Connolly's saying there's another way. Maybe instead of burning it at both ends day in and day out we need to decide once and for all who we're really here for. Who are your people? Who's already listening to you? Do you have a captive audience right in front of you? While most of this book is encouraging and nice, the last section is titled, "Make Your Move." This might be the hardest of all because this is where the application actually takes place. She challenges you to put legs to the everything you read about prior. Given the flow of this book, the last chapter being titled, "You're Doing It Right," only seems appropriate. If you (or someone you know) needs an encouraging read to remind them they are exactly where God wants them and His story is always better than we think, this is the book for them.
I Am Not the Girl for This Book
I was looking for books to inspire me during an annoying and long job search and thought this book would help me along with another I purchased. I was wrong. I am only 1/2 way through the book and I am bored. I feel like the chapters are repetitive and there aren't enough Bible verses quoted to back up what the writer is saying. Although I believe in Jesus Christ, I do not feel I have a calling to be in ministry. This book would be better suited for someone pursuing that, not an actual career where relying on your skills and competing are necessary.
Definitely going to change us for HIS GLORY
There really isn't enough time or space to write everything I love about this book and the message. A message about who God is and what He is capable of accomplishing through us. It's not about us and I really appreciate that Jess took the time to write a message not of fluff but of truth. Truth in that we're not just here to be comfortable and worried about ourselves. Truth that we're called and capable because of the kind of God we serve. He created us to bring glory to Him and however He called us to do that, He is more than capable of seeing that plan through. Jess's message is refreshing and encouraging, but more than that it's challenging. She doesn't just leave you hanging with questions on how, she gives tangible thoughts and tasks for you and me to do the work before us. I'm the girl for the job and I am so grateful for this reminder of God's goodness. Would I recommend this book? Yes. I've already read it twice and cannot wait to read it with highlighter and pen. I think anyone would benefit from this message and be encouraged by the words they will read as Jess remind you to work for the good of others and the glory of God.
Must-Read book of the decade!
This book radically changed my life. The message is so timely in today’s society, and even in my life as a girl in my 20’s trying to make my mark. This book completely changed the way I carry myself, and even the way I cheer for others. Jess Connolly did it again by prophesying a necessary message for this day and age. I am thankful for her obedience to God in hearing this message and writing it down for us. I read a lot of books every year, but this one is at the top. A must-read!
